Ceremony and Ritual
Ceremonies or rituals designed by Circle One incorporate A Shamanic Way with the
interconnectedness of Spirit, the traditional, and with the desires of the client.
Rituals or ceremonies are a means to welcome Spirit or God into your life. A ritual can be as
simple as the ceremony of saying grace before your meal, or as complex as a rite of passage
ceremony for a child, a marriage, or for a loved one who has passed on. A ritual simply says,
“Welcome. Bless me and this time. I honor you in all your glory and treasure your presence
in my life. Come to me now for there is always room in my heart for you.”
Rituals are celebrations of Spirit and our ability to connect from the heart to something
greater than we are. Ritual is something that we have in common as human beings
regardless of our background, our culture, or our heritage. Rituals can be performed
privately or in a group. Birthday celebrations, weddings, and memorial services are rituals
typically performed by a community linked heart to heart. Prayer and meditation are
rituals usually performed privately. Ritual can be applied to almost any occasion depending
on the intention of the participants. A house blessing, a naming ceremony, an energy
clearing of a building or a person, the list is limited only by imagination.
Shamanic ritual utilizes that awareness of the energies and the interconnectedness of the
earth, Spirit world, and the participants. This type of ritual utilizes a process called a
“journey” (a type of altered state) performed by the Shamanic practitioner to “travel” to the
Spirit world. A “world” or “dimension” usually only accessed through dreams, mythology,
and near death experiences. Over time the term Shamanism has come to refer to the
practitioner’s process.
Depending on the type of ritual the Shamanic practitioner may use the sound of a drum or
other means to enter an altered type state of consciousness to access “non-ordinary reality”
or Spirit world where dwell; healing processes, problem solving, and other opportunities to
maximize the abilities of the human mind.
A typical opening portion of a Shamanic ritual calls in the power of the cardinal directions:
North, East, South, and West, each of which have specific energetic attributes, using
drumming, song, or other means.
Utilizing A Shamanic Way in rituals and ceremonies that we traditionally perform such as
birthdays, weddings, naming and blessings, and other rites of passage creates a tangible link
between the energies of Spirit and the participants adding dimension and additional depth to
the celebration.
